My father had always been healthy until he was stricken with Parkinson's Disease. He was slowly losing
his motor skills and memory. He started telling me about a girl who lived next door who
he really liked.
Week after week, he would would tell me how much he liked this girl and how much he wanted to
marry her. This went on for a months. each time I would see him, he told me that he loved her
and was going to ask her to marry him.
He sometimes would not remember who I was, or he would confuse me with my sister. He often tell me he sdaw people who were not in the room or he would ask me who that was with me
even though no one there.
I did not know how to break the news to my mother that after all these years of marriage ,
my father was in love with another woman.
I hopes he was imagining it until one day my mother told me (as she was laughing)
that dad asked her to marry him today.
All of sudden it made sense. My mother lived next door to my dad when they met in 1945.
He wasn't imagining it at all. He was relieving it.
Dad taught me that true love is never ending. Thanks dad.
